Iris Lynn Root was born in Richards, Texas on March 10, 1941, to parents, John Aaron Reaves and Dorothy Ellington Reaves. She passed away in Porter, Texas, on June 17, 2026, at the age of 85.
Iris loved staying home with her children and providing a loving environment for her husband and kids. Her legacy of love was passed down to her children and she will be greatly missed by everyone that loved her.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Reaves; beloved husband, Thomas E. Root; brothers, Roy Glenn Reaves and Curtis Aaron Reaves.
She is survived by her beloved son, Reuben “Bubba” Gerhart of Onalaska, Texas; daughters, Brenda Gerhart of Point Blank, Texas and Danya Smith and husband Capt. Almond “Bubba” Smith III US Navy retired of Chesapeake, Virginia; brothers, Marcus Ray Reaves and James Lloyd Reaves; sister, Elaine; grandchildren, Christy Gerhart, Rieannie Gerhart, Taylor Flores, Almond Smith IV, and Sarah Ann Smith; great-grandchildren, Kasen James Wallain, Ainsley Gerhart, Eli Gerhart, and Bobbie Gerhart.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be Sunday, June 21, 2026, in the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel at 9 a.m. with Pastor Carry Gerhart officiating. Burial is scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.
