God presented William “Bill” John Pan to the world Sept. 23, 1946, in New Prague, Minn., on a mission of faith and joy. Bill went to play music with Jesus on Sept. 4, 2026, in Conroe, Texas, with his soul partner and wife Edie by his side.
Bill led a life of service displayed by his time as a Medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He continued his service to his faith thru music, dropping the pedal to the metal on the steel slide at various venues throughout Texas. Happily playing at London Hall, Twin Sisters Dance Hall, Kendalia Hall, and Luckenbach Dance Hall, Gruene Hall, and many more over this great United States. Thanks to all creatives who loved him, you know who you are.
Bill’s music was transcendent, the steel an extension of his spirit shared with those wanting to dance, spin and generally celebrate life. Listening to him play was not just entertaining but a feeling of his spirit flowing throughout the notes to listening ears and open hearts. Another of his gifts shared was to Edie’s grandchildren who respectfully dubbed him ‘Mr. B”. Pressley, Tate, Oliver and Juliette delighted in his antics that will forever be in their memories. They loved and respected him; his spirit will live on in their hearts. Bill was all heart all the time, great smile, fabulous musician, Edie’s best mate, friendships galore and best hugger ever.
Staying earthbound to rejoice in his life, cry for his earthly absence and carry his spirit forward with joy are; his fabulous wife of 15 yrs, BFF and unequivocal gig companion Edie Pan. His lovely daughters Lesley Stapleton and husband Keith, Stacey Brown and husband J.P., his brother David Pan and wife Vickie, sister Debra Wetherald and husband Harry, grandson Jakob Stapleton. Relatives, friends and band mates throughout the years.
Preceded in death by his father Harry John Pan, mother Annabelle Marie Bauer Pan and his brother Mark Pan.
No words can truly sum up Bills life. He was many things to many people. In the end, he leaves a legacy of faith, service, laughter, music, unconditional love and let’s face it seriously great hugs. Gods speed Mr. BILL.
